Volkswagen tuning files for the actual ECU configuration.
Order VW ECU calibration from your original software and vehicle data. Include the exact identification, installed components and fuel instead of matching a file by model name.

Choose the service around the hardware
For suitable stock configurations, Stage 1 is a common starting point. Changed components require a separate brief. The workshop assesses the vehicle condition and supplies the relevant data.
Where gearbox work is requested, provide the TCU identification and current engine setup. A DSG name does not establish support for every software version. Confirm the scope and price before ordering.
Confirm the protocol with the tool provider, save original data and document the written version. Supply logs and diagnosis when asking for a revision.
Separate the Golf generation, engine and controller
A request described only as a Golf TDI file or a GTI remap leaves important details open. Identify the generation, engine variant and installed ECU software. The same workshop may see similar model names with different controller versions, and a later software update can change the starting point again.
Use the Volkswagen section of the vehicle database to find the relevant model and compare its recorded Stage 1 figures. Those entries organise the enquiry; they do not replace the software check. Send the file associated with the vehicle you are working on rather than choosing another delivery because the listed stock output matches.
List changed components and the fuel specification when the vehicle is no longer in the stock configuration. Include identifying details that help distinguish component versions, and describe the intended use. A stage label is useful navigation, but it is not a complete description of the work required for an individual setup.
If the vehicle has an existing calibration, provide its history and the current readout. Explain whether the request is a new development, an adjustment to previous work or a response to a documented behaviour. Keeping those situations distinct helps development establish what should be retained and what needs to be assessed.
DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500 are examples of gearbox-family names you may encounter in a Volkswagen enquiry. Their names are useful context, but each order still needs its own TCU identification and tool support check. Do not use a gearbox-family label as a substitute for the software data.
Describe the engine file and the requested shift behaviour together. Include existing symptoms and any relevant workshop findings before asking for transmission changes. The correct file-service discussion separates a desired software characteristic from a condition that requires diagnosis or mechanical attention.
Specify individual functions rather than an option bundle
For Pops & Bangs, Mapswitch or a speed-limiter request, identify the intended operation and confirm availability for the supplied software. Supported functions vary, and options listed together on a website are not automatically suitable for the same controller or application. Ask for the required functions explicitly in the order.
Mapswitch requests should describe the proposed variants and switching arrangement. They are separate from DAMOS or MapPack enquiries, which require a matching definition for the original data. If your project needs both calibration and definitions, keep the two deliverables clear so that their scope can be confirmed individually.
When reporting a driveability observation, identify the installed file and explain where it occurs. Useful context includes the active mode, fuel, current hardware and relevant diagnosis. Ask which channels and conditions will help review the request instead of submitting an unexplained screenshot of a single value.
Keep the original software and each delivered revision with the same job reference. If a component is changed during the project, update the order before comparing the next result. Consistent records allow the workshop and file service to discuss the same Volkswagen configuration at each stage of the work.
