BMW tuning files for identified ECU and TCU versions.
Request BMW ECU software work using original data, control-unit identification and vehicle configuration. Engine family and model badge alone do not confirm file compatibility.

Stock hardware or a modified setup?
Describe fuel, hardware changes and vehicle condition. Stage 1 usually concerns stock hardware; modified configurations need a development brief that reflects the actual components. Fixed gains cannot be promised from the stage name alone.
Tell the file service which tool and protocol you use. Confirm support or any required unlocking for the specific ECU and software version with the appropriate tool provider. Include TCU identification if transmission work is requested.
Keep the original version, written file and suitable measurements with the job. Use the portal to clarify revisions rather than transferring a file between vehicles with similar specifications.
Use the BMW model as the entry point, then identify the software
A search for a 320d, 530i or M5 file is a useful starting point, but the final match needs more detail. Include the generation, engine identification and the data returned by the ECU. A workshop should not transfer a file between vehicles simply because their badges and advertised stock output agree.
The vehicle database lets you compare the recorded Stage 1 reference figures by generation and engine. Use those figures to frame the enquiry rather than as an instruction to write a particular file. The delivered software must be prepared from the information associated with the actual vehicle in your workshop.
Describe petrol and diesel requests in their own terms
For a petrol project, identify the fuel to be used and any changes to the intake, cooling, exhaust or other relevant components. For a diesel project, explain the application and the customer's working conditions as well as the hardware. Avoid carrying a request from one engine type into another without discussing the differences.
A broad request for more torque can hide several different expectations. The customer may want a different response, more useful delivery in a certain operating range or software for upgraded components. State the actual goal and retain relevant diagnostic information so that the discussion concerns the vehicle's behaviour, rather than only its model description.

Keep engine and transmission software distinguishable
If the project includes automatic-transmission software, send the TCU identification and the separate file where the supported procedure provides one. Explain which engine calibration is installed or being developed. Engine and transmission orders should reference each other, while their original data and delivered versions remain clearly identified.
Do not assume that an engine file includes all requested transmission functions. Confirm the scope of each service and any additional options through the price list and portal order. Changes to a torque request or software limit also do not establish the mechanical condition or capacity of the fitted transmission.
Mapswitch concerns supported switching between agreed calibration variants. It is a separate request whose feasibility depends on the exact ECU and software. Explain the intended variants and operating controls, then check the supported-controller list. A BMW model entry in the vehicle database is not confirmation that Mapswitch is available.
DAMOS and WinOLS MapPack enquiries serve a different purpose again: they concern definitions for a matching software version. Where the database provides a catalogue link, include the original BIN or ORI with the request. The presence of a controller-family reference alone is not sufficient to select a definition.
Provide revision feedback that identifies the BMW configuration
When submitting feedback, include the written file version, active driving mode, fuel and any hardware changes since the order. Describe whether the observation is repeatable and under which conditions it occurs. Agree the useful measurements with development before collecting a large set of unrelated channels.
Keep customer handover notes with the job so that a later manufacturer update or component change can be identified. If the starting software changes, discuss the new identification before reusing a previous delivery. An organised job history makes subsequent BMW file work easier to assess.
