Record the actual KESS3 operation
KESS3 offers OBD, Bench and Boot connections according to controller coverage and tool configuration. OBD uses the diagnostic connection, Bench communicates through the controller connector, and Boot work can require an opened unit. Choose the operation supported for the actual ECU and software, using the current manufacturer instructions rather than a method remembered from a similar vehicle.
Keep the ECU or TCU identification with the read and state which protocol and connection were used. An update, replacement controller or different software version can change the file you receive.
Confirm the Master or Slave arrangement
KESS3 Master and linked Slave workflows use different file-handling routes. With a Master, supply the relevant read for calibration work. With a Slave, the file exchange depends on the assigned Master relationship. Tell us about that arrangement before sending the first order, so the practical route is clear before a customer vehicle is waiting.
Keep encrypted outputs intact. A different filename or file extension does not remove the tool relationship. We agree how the original is processed and the result returned; submitting a portal enquiry does not by itself change the assigned Master.
Plan the Master and Slave file exchange ↗Identify the starting software
Upload the unmodified output from the job, accompanied by the controller identification. Distinguish a normal read from a virtual read or any other protocol-specific output. Keep recovery backups separate and label supporting files so their relationship is obvious. A folder containing several unexplained reads leaves important questions about which software is actually in the vehicle.
If previous tuning is known or suspected, include that information in the specification. Do not describe an uncertain file as stock simply because the vehicle feels standard. Establishing the original state is part of agreeing a sound basis for the requested calibration.
Original files, virtual reads and backups ↗Specify ECU and TCU work separately
For Stage 1, describe the hardware, fuel and intended use. Stage 2 requests also need the installed component changes and a clear development goal. Part names without the actual vehicle configuration can leave significant gaps, especially when the requested torque needs to be coordinated with transmission behaviour.
Include the gearbox type and known TCU software where relevant. Engine tuning and transmission calibration are separate services, even when both controllers are accessed using KESS3. A supported connection to one controller does not establish the availability or scope of work on the other.
Discuss DSG and TCU tuning files ↗Request options against the identified file
Speed-limiter changes, Pops & Bangs and other software options should be described as part of the actual job. State the required behaviour and mention any functions already present. The fact that KESS3 can read a controller is useful, but it does not establish that every requested function can be implemented in its software.
Mapswitch is handled through its own compatibility check. Provide the ECU variant, original file and intended map choices before promising a switching feature to your customer. We can then discuss feasibility and the operating arrangement in the context of that software.
Check the Mapswitch file service ↗Keep validation connected to a file version
Retain the delivered calibration and record which version was written. After programming, the workshop carries out diagnosis and checks appropriate to the vehicle. If an issue needs discussion, describe the operating condition and the evidence collected. This creates a more useful starting point than assuming every observation after a flash has the same cause.
For revisions, send relevant raw logs through the existing portal order and identify the fuel, hardware and test conditions. Explain any changes made since the initial request. This keeps the revision tied to a reproducible vehicle state and a traceable software version.
Prepare a useful revision request ↗Choose equipment and order through credits
If you are adding KESS3 to the workshop, start with the vehicles and connection methods you expect to use. Discuss the Master or Slave configuration, protocol coverage and required accessories before purchasing.
The current service prices and credit terms are listed on our pricing page. Use the customer portal for the file order and keep technical questions within that job. If the required scope is unclear, send an enquiry before selecting additional work.

Questions about this service
Do I send a BIN or a Slave output?
Send the original output generated by your KESS3 workflow and identify the tool configuration. Do not extract or rename a Slave container to imitate a Master file. Confirm the assigned Master route before processing.
Does KESS3 support every ECU through OBD?
No. Connection methods and available functions vary with the controller, software and protocol configuration. Check the current Alientech coverage and the specific instructions for the job.
